LaTeX2e Help Top Level
These help screens are part of the
"Guide to the School of Computing
Science TeX Installation" document. They contain
mostly new, updated or more comprehensive material than the
printed guide.
Please email Grant Heinrich leroy@socs.uts.edu.au
with comments and to report mistakes.
You can browse via the index, or by selecting
a topic below.
- Learning LaTeX/LaTeX2e
- Packages installed at UTS.
- The CTAN (major TeX / LaTeX / LaTeX2e) archives;
instructions are also available for unpacking
and installing new packages.
- Fonts
- The local TeX library organisation.
- Converting LaTeX files to LaTeX2e.
- Instructions for systems staff
on installing TeX packages.
- Makeindex (which is better covered in the Companion,

- BibTeX (also better covered in the
Companion, Chapter 13, pp. 371-420)
- References:
- Chris Maltby's Introduction to TeX and Friends, a guide
to LaTeX, in
dvi or
postscript formats;
or read the tex
file directly.
- Grant Heinrich's Guide to the UTS TeX Installation:
dvi,
postscript, or
tex.
- Tobias Octiker's A not very short introduction to LaTeX2e
is only available as postscript.
That document has not been read, so I can't vouch for its
accuracy. (If you do read it, please mail me your opinion.)
- LaTeX2e font selection commands
(
dvi or
postscript).
- LaTeX2e maths symbols in

Additional help
Pointers are provided here for:
A series of help screens for LaTeX (NOT LaTeX2e), BibTeX and MakeIndex
have been compiled by the CTAN organisation. The next three pointers
are for local copies of this material.
It all appears correct, but hasn't been that closely checked for
accuracy. Read at your own risk.
